Propping up the bar at the IPM Conference

IPM Conference

I recently attended an Integrative Personalised Medicine conference in London.  A What?  I hear you say.  Well, this brings together those who work in conventional medicine with Functional Medicine practitioners and a wide range of holistic practitioners like myself.  However we are all focused on evidence – based medicine which treats the whole person in an individualized way.  It is interesting to me how many medics have become disillusioned with the conventional approach – particularly offering pills as the solution to everything and failing to consider diet and lifestyle and everything in between: things which we holistic practitioners have been focused on for years.

I will come back to this in another blog but today I just wanted to tell you about the cocktail bar I found myself returning to during the conference.  It was offering free cocktails made from a new non-alcoholic drink called Sentia.  However this is different from that alcohol free bud or Nosecco or whatever it is you’ve been drinking recently in that it actually stimulates the production of GABA in the brain.  This is the neurotransmitter that gives you that good feeling that you get (initially anyway) from alcohol, before you get legless and wake up with a blinding headache unable to remember what happened the night before.  SENTIA has all the benefits with none of the downsides.  Sounds good doesn’t it?

This is a drink designed by scientists using natural botanicals known to enhance your GABA and I have to say it was really effective and delicious!

Meanwhile, other ways you can stimulate your GABA neuromodulators are through social connection, playing games with friends or through touch – like massage of course!
